SID / SAI / KIM explainer

Three documents. Different purposes. Together, they help you understand a mutual fund scheme before you commit your money.

Your starting point for scheme information

SEBI's mutual fund framework requires offer documents that explain a scheme and the fund offering it. Read the current Scheme Information Document (SID), Statement of Additional Information (SAI), Key Information Memorandum (KIM) and any subsequent addenda together.

i2 Finserv can be contacted for help locating the documents for a scheme you are considering. They are also available from the AMC. A document's publication or filing does not mean SEBI recommends the scheme or guarantees returns.

SID — Scheme Information Document

The SID explains the specific scheme: what it seeks to do, how it invests and the risks and terms attached to your investment.

  • Investment objective, asset allocation and investment strategy.
  • Risk factors and the scheme's SEBI Riskometer.
  • Expenses, including TER information for Direct and Regular Plans.
  • Exit loads, redemption terms, liquidity and any lock-in.
  • Fund manager, benchmark and scheme performance information where available.
  • Valuation and NAV-related disclosures.

Check the latest AMC disclosures too: expenses, the Riskometer, managers and other scheme details can change after a document is issued.

SAI — Statement of Additional Information

The SAI provides information about the mutual fund and AMC that generally applies across its schemes. Read it with the SID.

  • Details of the sponsor, trustees, AMC and service providers.
  • Rights of unit holders and general operating procedures.
  • Tax information and relevant legal provisions.
  • KYC, investor eligibility and documentation requirements.
  • Investor services and the grievance redressal mechanism.

KIM — Key Information Memorandum

The KIM is a concise summary of key scheme information. Its length varies; it is a useful first read, but it does not replace the complete SID and SAI.

  • Investment objective, asset allocation and Riskometer.
  • Benchmark, fund manager and performance information.
  • NAV publication and transaction information.
  • Exit load, expenses and minimum investment amounts.
  • Purchase, redemption and other essential scheme terms.
